It is interesting and ironic that environmental disease is not recognized in Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary or defined as a disease. Yet, with over 80,000 toxic chemicals in our environment that never existed 200 years ago--and that includes the air, water, soil and food--an increasingly large number of people suffer from a wide variety of symptoms. Gulf War Syndrome is one of those diseases that even has a name--but is not recognized as a disease condition by the government's medical authorities. In most cases, the symptoms of environmental disease include: allergies, skin rashes, depression, headaches, muscle weakness, inability to absorb food, irregular heartbeat and suicidal thoughts. Actually, sufferers find it almost impossible to live anywhere in comfort, so all too often suicide seems to be the only way out. (In fact, many Gulf War veterans have committed suicide.) Doctors don't help; drugs to relieve one or more of the symptoms are tried and found unsuccessful. Since all drugs are toxic, these eventually worsen symptoms. Prednisone can help temporarily but eventually adds to the problems.
